Iceland explorations during the summer months

Hey everyone! I’ve been keeping busy, but wanted to take a moment to get some images out from my summer exploration trip to Iceland. I’ve been running workshops in Iceland during winters for some years now, however, I’ve never visited during the summer months. The main goal was to see the interior of the island which is closed due to snow during the winter months. I visited during early July, which is close to the summer solstice. During this time, it actually never really gets dark as the sun dips below the horizon, but not far enough for dark night skies. Days are long, and offered lots of time for exploration. Unfortunately there were a number of days of rainy weather, I got sick for several days, along with a couple of trip related issues, so I didn’t quite get everything that I wanted to in terms of images from the trip (specifically the puffins). As it goes sometimes though. That is life, and that is photography. I’m currently on a flight to Iceland to run my annual winter workshops, and figured this was a good time to finally try to start catching up on some blog posts. My enthusiasm for Iceland in general right now is pretty off the charts. For those of you who follow the blog, you’re getting the first heads up that I will be running summer-time Iceland photography workshops starting in the summer of 2023 (late June) that are specifically geared towards couples where one is person is a photographer, and the other is not. I’ve run into many couples who want to come out together for the workshop, but the non-photographer spouse wants to visit Iceland and get the full experience, without the boredom that can come along with waiting on a photographer partner. This workshop will accommodate both participants harmoniously, filled with special experiences (including a private flight with a pilot who is a very talented aerial photographer) and lots of hours of shooting for you photographers. I don’t have details spelled out yet, but I should have that out within the next several weeks. If you would like to get an early notification on that trip, please send me an email at: info@zion-photography.com to express your interest, and you’ll be sure to be notified before I send an email blast out to all of my past guests. Sorry I have been so bad at posting as of recently. I’ve been staying busy, and have been shooting a TON this year! I have quite a bit to post, and it’s time to play catch up. The next posts coming up will probably not be on the wordy end of things, but rather, mostly just posting images of some places I’ve been spending time in this year. I hope you enjoy the images, and hopefully I’ll get to see you guys out here at some point!

Abstract photos of Glacier melt runnoff heading towards the North Atlantic Sea. We met an awesome pilot who is also a photographer through a fellow photographer friend. For the summer workshops, we’ll definitely do a flight with this great guy who’s name is Haldor. His photo expertise, fantastic personality and passion, flying experienc.… this is the guy for us. Can’t imagine anyone better.
